Document The Abuse Awarded Grant

Document the Abuse is deeply honored to announce that we have been awarded a significant grant from the Aurora Women's Empowerment Foundation (AWEF). This generous grant will enable us to expand our critical work of documenting the experiences of abuse survivors by providing access to the Evidentiary Abuse Affidavit (EAA) at no charge. This support is a monumental step forward in our mission to give a voice to those who are enduring abuse and to provide them with essential tools to ensure their safety and seek justice.

We appreciate AWEF’s mission: “To help make our vision a reality, our mission is to elevate and empower Aurora-area women and future women by making grants to tax-exempt nonprofits engaged in meaningful, measurable work that helps women over the hurdles of inequity and exclusion, propelling them forward with life-changing programs and services.”

The generous grant from the Aurora Women's Empowerment Foundation will provide us with the necessary resources to offer the EAA at no cost to abuse survivors. This funding will enable us to reach more individuals, particularly those who may not have the financial means to access other support. By removing this financial barrier, we can ensure that everyone has the opportunity to document their abuse safely and effectively.

Abuse, in all its forms, affects countless individuals, and often going unreported due to fear, stigma, and lack of resources. At Document the Abuse, we are acutely aware of the barriers that victims face when seeking to record their stories and protect themselves. The EAA is a vital resource that allows victims of violence to document their abuse in a legally recognized format, which can be used as evidence in court or by law enforcement. This affidavit not only validates their experiences but also serves as a crucial lifeline, offering support when it is most needed.

Our work is centered on the belief that every victim’s story is important and deserves to be heard.

The impact of this grant is multifaceted. First and foremost, it provides victims with a platform to be heard, which is a crucial step forward. Additionally, it will contribute to promote a broader understanding of the prevalence and impact of abuse through training programs, helping to challenge harmful myths and misconceptions. Document the Abuse supports advocacy efforts aimed at enacting stronger protections and resources for victims of violence, influencing policymakers, and raising public awareness.

With the support of the Aurora Women's Empowerment Foundation, we can collaborate with advocacy groups, educational institutions, and policymakers to maximize the reach and impact of the Evidentiary Abuse Affidavit.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to AWEF for their generous support. This grant is not just a financial boost; it is a powerful endorsement of our mission and our work. Together, we can amplify the voices of survivors, honor their resilience, and work towards a future where abuse is not only recognized and understood but actively prevented.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank The Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley for their expert assistance in administering our grant funds. They have opened doors for Document The Abuse to move forward in our mission locally in Aurora and beyond.
